Mobile dam systems
A quick-to-install, safe and affordable anti-flood system - reserving the built environment - against flood waves approaching the crest of anti-flood embankments within 1 meter or exceeding the crest by no more than 80 cm; or against flood waves reaching the ground level of high banks or exceeding the ground level by no more than 80 cm.
The crucial elements of the system are: the tarpaulin piece - with a quality and dimensions adapted to the requirements of use - with two legs to fix the system to the anti-flood embankment or to the ground; and the tube - which is to be placed between the legs of the tarpaulin and should be filled with water.
The system is useful against flood waves exceeding the banks of streams or watercourses, against waves exceeding the top of so-called “high banks”, to establish counterpressure ring dikes around boils, to prevent the spreading of inland waters, etc... If amended with a tarpaulin of properly selected material, it could be suitable for establishing containers and storage spaces for the temporary holding of water, wastewater, liquid manure, water contaminated with oil, spilled diesel oil, or even bulk materials and grain products.
ADVANTAGES OF THE MOBILE DAM SYSTEM
- It is a system to be installed several times and in different locations
- The heaviest unit is 60 kg only, its weight per meter is only a fraction of sandbag dams
- A 1000 m long and 60 cm high dam and its accessories can be shipped to the site of installation using a truck with a carrying capacity of 7 tons only
- Quick and easy to install, with low labour costs
- A 1000 m long dam can be installed in 12 hours
- The safest temporary solution for the remediation of flood damages
- Good resistance against surf
- No hazardous waste produced when used
- None or minimal recovery needed
- Manufacturing and delivery based on specific needs
- The system can be delivered in whole or in parts, with the dimensions and in the quality required by the customer
MATERIAL
High-tensile technical textile coated with PVC on both sides is usually the most suitable for manufacturing the mobile dam system. According to the intended purpose, the surface of the material can be coated with UV-resistant, antifungal or fireproof coating - in case of gas containers, the ground texture has a minimal gas-permeability. The joints and welding seams are watertight and gastight. The strength of the material depends on the dimensions of the container/tank: from 650 g/m2 to 1550 g/m2. The fire classification of the material is B-s1-d0.
HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS AND HOW TO USE IT
The two-legged tarpaulin spread out on top of the upstream slope of the embankment protects the top 1 meter and the crest of the embankment from being soaked and drenched by the water. In addition, it almost doubles the soak length across the embankment’s core, thus, it highly reduces the danger of embankment breakthrough. The two-legged tarpaulin can be fixed to the slope of the embankment at every meter, using ground stakes applied through the tarp holes. In case of a concrete slope, the tarpaulin can be fixed by applying plastic stakes into the holes drilled into the concrete, or by any other reasonable method. The two-legged tarpaulins are spread out with overlappings of 2 metres, in any length deemed necessary.
The system requires a width of 80 cm on top of the upstream side of the embankment crest and it does not apply unnecessary weight on the embankment. The tubes can be connected longitudinally or next to each other quickly and safely with snaphooks; in the latter case, a third tube can be placed on top of the two tubes connected on the ground. The two-legged tarpaulin increases and guarantees watertightness when tubes are connected, and prevents the movement of the tubes when water-pressure is applied. It provides an easy and quick method to connect the system to other protective structures or buildings.
The two-legged tarpaulin protects the tube against damages by flotsam and other impacts as well. The occasional damage of the tube will not make it crack or burst - the tube can be repaired easily on site, even if it is filled with water.
SERVICES
Graboplan provides the following services with regard to the sales of flood tubes:
COUNSELLING, CONTRIBUTION TO THE PLANNING
The advices of our experienced engineers and manufacturing specialists concerning the on-site installation of the flood tube system (local features, fixing methods, on-site construction technology, etc.) should be taken into consideration at the stages of concept planning and preparation. The flood tube will be designed and manufactured in compliance with and adapted to the local requirements.
ESTABLISHING THE BUDGET
Budget for the anti-flood dams may be calculated in light of the site and circumstances of the installation, after consultations with the customer.
DATA PROVISION FOR AUTHORISATION PROCEDURE
Graboplan will provide plans for the authorisation (if necessary).
PREPARATION OF PRODUCTION PLANS
Manufacturing is performed within the frame of ISO quality management system, on the basis of the production plans concerning the flood tube and the related or incorporated accessories.
MANUFACTURING
Technology and manufacturing capacities adapted to the dimensions and technical requirements of the project, using state-of-the-art machines: CAD/CAM computer-controlled plotter, high-frequency welding machines (for PVC-, PE- and PU-coated materials), pressing machines (for PTFE- and silicone-coated and Tenara materials), foil welding machines (for ETFE foil). The mobile dam system is manufactured using high frequency welding.
DELIVERY
The flood tube and the related fixing pieces are delivered on road by a lorry, and the system can be moved manually.
ON-SITE ASSEMBLY
Our assembly consultants support the solution of on-site logistics and assembly tasks with their 20 years of experience.
PREPARATION OF DELIVERY DOCUMENTATION
Preparation of as-built drawings, specifications of materials installed, technical data sheets, declarations of performance with product-related user-maintenance instructions.
